CHICAGO (December 11, 2007) – Community Health Charities of Illinois (CHCI) will host a workshop on governance and board development for not-for-profit organizations on January 10, at Jenner & Block, 330 North Wabash.  The free seminar will feature Henry M. Schaffer, of counsel at Jenner & Block, speaking on governance, and Nancy McInroy,  Executive Director of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Illinois, speaking on board development,

The program, hosted for CHCI by Jenner & Block, will begin with continental breakfast at 8:00 a.m., with a promised adjournment by 9:30 a.m.   Since space is limited, reservations are mandatory (call 312 360 0382).

Nancy McInroy, Executive Director for the Illinois Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) since June 2006,  began her non-profit career in 1992 with American Red Cross in Midland, Michigan, where she served for four years as the Director of Health and Safety Services.  For the next nine years, she was employed with ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee and Detroit, Michigan. Community Health Charities of Illinois is part of a nationwide federation of America's premier health organizations that have joined together to stimulate health awareness and voluntarism and raise charitable contributions in the workplace. Community Health Charities distributes close to $58 million annually, based on contributions from millions of employees in corporations, federal agencies, and state/municipal governments nationwide. By designating a “health charity of choice” employees have an opportunity to touch the lives of people they know and love, and at the same time help someone they have never met by having a charitable donation automatically deducted from their paycheck.

CHCI welcomes reservations for the January 10th breakfast workshop at 312 360 0382 or info@healthcharitiesillinois.org  from board and staff members of not-for-profits, especially those responsible for recruiting and training board members and assuring that appropriate governance procedures are being followed.  Visits are also invited to www.healthcharitiesillinois.org to learn about workplace giving and about volunteer opportunities at organizations doing medical research, or providing patient services and health education.
