When We First Arrived the Rain was busy

The Rain finally stops, the skies clear and the
fun marches on, or at least walks on....

review by Ed Vincent

This was the second year of the annual event to bring excitement and activity to the center part of downtown Chicago,  dusk ‘till the dawn of the following day.  Upon our arrival heavy rains kept many hidden from the festivities, but weather being a temporal inconvenience, changes quickly, and so as the skies dried and the night progressed, the people ventured forth,
many from the Chicago area, north-side, south-side and west.

These attractive women on bicycle carts reminded me of scenes from the film "Blade Runner", but they were actually working for
Macy's to get sample perfumes into the hands of pedestrians-- I
like the Sci-fi part better.

The artsy glamour, laced with humor, gothic garb, pantomime, living art, scenes reminiscent of “Blade Runner,” were perhaps topped off with line-called square dancing adjacent to Picasso’s grand work of art in the Daley Center.

Looks a bit like Holland Michigan, but Springs likes the Daley Plaza too.  The Dancing water is another plus to see....

Animated Endeavors to Pile Books to the Ceiling had
those on the inside of the Macy window busy for hours,
as those on the outside were busy noting the progress.

Everyone we spoke to from all over the city was having a good time at this fun event and desires for more,  even the police
were happy to be working an event which, though chaotic
and eclectic was calm and peaceful.

Personally, given the night time element of the event, I would have like a New ORLEANS
STYLE marching band, flame
eating individuals on stilts, jugglers and faux dancing bears,
but maybe next year!

There was diversity in the music and in the presentations and many facilities had later hours during the event.  We saw
Macy’s protesters, folks who want the Marshall Field’s moniker given back to the store and free perfume given as samples to those in need of enhancement for springtime endeavors.

Free programs and fun from one end of town to the other.

Perhaps a forlorn Bride, this living art was
seen by many, understood by few...

Thank you to Chicago for a festive and well-run event.
