Theatre at the Center
presents
DEFENDING
THE CAVEMAN
Munster
native Kevin Burke will star in special performances Wednesday, April 1
through Sunday, April 5
Munster, IN- Defending the Caveman, the
longest running solo play
in Broadway history, has won the hearts of over eight million people
worldwide in more than 16 different languages. Defending the Caveman, written by Rob Becker and
starring Munster native Kevin Burke, plays Theatre at the Center, 1040
Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana, from Wednesday, April 1 through Sunday,
April 5 as a special event during their 2009 season.
Burke, on break from his hit, sold-out run of Defending the Caveman at the Excalibur Casino in Las Vegas, will be performing this engagement
specifically for his hometown audience before returning to Las Vegas.
Defending the
Caveman, a hilariously insightful play about the ways
men and women relate, is an international hit with productions in 30
countries, including the United States, Canada, South Africa, Iceland,
Sweden and Germany. Comedian Rob Becker
wrote Defending the
Caveman over a three-year period during which he made
an informal study of anthropology, prehistory, psychology, sociology
and mythology. This prehistoric look at the battle of the sexes
played for two years on Broadway and is full of hilarious scenarios
that celebrate the differences between men and women.
With hilarious insights on contemporary feminism, masculine sensitivity
and the erogenous zone, Defending the Caveman
addresses the common themes in relationships that go straight to the
funny bone.
A graduate of Munster
High School, Kevin Burke was recently honored as
the “2008 Entertainer of the Year” at the fifth annual Meatball Awards.
The Meatball Awards recognize talented entertainers, members of the
press, chefs, sommeliers, entrepreneurs and many others who have helped
make Las Vegas into the entertainment capital of
the world. Burke has been starring in the Broadway tour of Defending the Caveman to critical acclaim since 2003.
Burke has been featured on OPRAH, THE CBS MORNING NEWS, NPR's TALK OF
THE NATION, THE DR. LAURA BERMAN SHOW on XM Satellite Radio, NBC-TV's
FRIDAY NIGHT, and ABC-TV's AMERICA'S FUNNIEST PEOPLE
which awarded Burke its grand prize.
Burke
is one of the founding actors of the famed IMPROV OLYMPICS, and has
starred in stage productions of Man of La Mancha, West
Side Story, Gemini, Sexual Perversity in Chicago, Guys & Dolls, The
Underpants, Whose Life is it Anyway?, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way
to the Forum, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream under the direction of
David Swann of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Burke’s
own solo play Born
to Goof debuted at the Phoenix Theater in Indianapolis, and was the hit of the
2001 Chicago Comedy Festival.
Performances
will be Wednesday, April 1 and Thursday, April 2 at 2 p.m.; Friday,
April 3 and Saturday, April 4 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, April 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets for all performances are $40. Group pricing of $30 is available for groups
