5:40 pm © Suburban Journals of Chicago Inc. photo When a call to the fire department read, a report of smoke and perhaps fire at Pan's grocery all alarms were sounded. There had never been in recent history such a call from Pan's. There has been a series of calls from false fire alarms from neighboring businesses in the area on the block. Sometimes smoke alarms are either too sensitive or perhaps the cook has over cooked a given order and sent extra smoke out from the kitchen. Oak Park Avenue was shut down for a time and alarmed many people, perhaps a slow day for those in the emergency business or just what is required for a call to business on that block. Fire fighters came from both directions and needed to be in support and making use of the street, which means traffic has to go away for a bit. Upon arrival it was judged that no fire or area of concern was to be found, and no one was injured, but many were concerned. The street was opened and the Cubs went on to play their game, with results not as good as Oak Park Avenue.
