Chops, a much loved eating spot in
Forest Park was apparently hit by one of several lighting strikes
recorded this morning in Forest Park. The National Weather
Service monitors all strikes by lightening in and around the United
States. Their data has confirmed some 3 or more strikes in the
area.
The Fire trucks left after the clean up, around noon, but some investigators remained on the scene doing analysis of the burn. Forest Park Chief Steve Glinke told us that he strongly leans in the direction of the lightning strikes and told us of several local residents hearing and seeing lightning in the area and time of the fire. No people were in the building at the time and there were no injuries noted from the fire. The entire roof is destroyed and large portions of the building are burned as well. None of the surrounding buildings suffered any damage from the fire, even the Duckfat restaurant and bar next door. Hopefully things will be rebuilt soon and Skrines Chops will be back to cooking with less heat...... ![]() Weather Channels Lightning Strikes
