Memphis the Musical"A fabulous musical with singing and dancing at their best. A love story and drama showing the birth of Rock and Roll. Highly Recommended." Suburban Journals of Chicago Inc. playing at the Cadillac Palace Theatre for 2 Weeks, November 22-December 4th. Music David Bryan
review by Ed VincentLyrics David Bryan, Joe DiPietro Book Joe DiPietro Memphis is a new musical by David Bryan,
who did the music and lyrics, and Joe DiPietro, who did the book and
co-wrote the lyrics. It is based, or inspired by the real Memphis
DJ Dewey
Phillips. Phillips was one of the first white DJs to bring black music to the white
audiences of the South. His style and conviction are said to be a
moving force for the "Race" music to give birth to Rock and Roll.
The Tony Award for Best Musical, as well as
three more Tonys were won in 2010.
The touring company does a great job of doing justice and honor to the characters in the book. The choreography and execution of the numbers is breathtaking, by the entire cast. The music is loud and powerful, the beat dynamic, the sets creative. ![]() Felicia Boswell, as Felicia and company. Felicia Boswell is loaded with talent and
her boyfriend Bryan Fenkart is a fast paced hometown boy with a vision
of soul.
![]() This is a great show, a new show, not a
revival, and the story is engaging with heart strings all out and
bare. The audience stood and clapped at the end, and for good
reason.

Cadillac Palace Information: The Cadillac Palace Theatre is located in Chicago, Illinois at 151 West Randolph Street. The venue is located in the downtown area known as the Chicago Loop. This location alone has a lot to do with the overall popularity of the venue. The Cadillac Palace Theatre opened its doors to the public in 1926. At that time the venue was known as the New Palace Theatre. In 1999, the venue was renovated and subsequently renamed the Cadillac Palace Theatre. Since reopening in 1999 under its new name, the venue has hosted many top notch productions including: Mamma Mia, The Producers, Aida, and The Lion King among many others. As far as theatres in Chicago are concerned, it does not get much better than the Cadillac Palace Theatre. ![]() ![]() © Suburban Journals of Chicago published by Suburban Journals of Chicago Inc. |
