| Oak Park’s 9-year-old Baseball Travel Team Wins
Championship in Area Tournament
After qualifying two weeks ago for the Super Series
Baseball of America National Championship in Gulfport, Mississippi, the
9-year-old Oak Park Eagles continued to play strong baseball by overcoming
hard-playing opponents in four tough games to win the championship of the
Streamwood Mad Dogs Spring Slam 2004 on April 18. The Eagles came
from behind to win three times and were undefeated in four tightly contested
games.
“Our boys never gave up,” said Bruce Callahan &
Miles Harris, team coaches. “Strong defense and excellent base running
kept us in every game and the players never lost their confidence.”
The Eagles players in this tournament included Griffin
Baig, Jack Belcaster, John Callahan, Pat Callahan, Austin Cone, Nick Fascione,
Jacob Harris, Mason Hinckley, Jake Johnson, Brian Keegan, Max Menzies,
Erik Oxnevad, Jack Sorsa, and Sam Walder.
The Streamwood tournament was the second of the season
and the Eagles’ record so far is a very impressive eight wins against only
one loss. The 10 year old Oak Park Eagles team was also successful
and finished second in their division.
The Eagles are the official tournament team of Oak
Park Youth Baseball/Softball.
